Catechesis on Laetare/Lent 4 (St. John 6:1-15) 2017

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00.

In this video from March 22, 2017, we learned stanza 3 of “A Lamb Goes Uncomplaining Forth” (The Lutheran Hymnal, #142), the fifth question under The Sacrament of the Altar from the Small Catechism, and St. John 6:33.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:1-15), which is the Holy Gospel for Laetare (Lent 4) Sunday.

Catechesis on Epiphany Three (St. Matthew 8:1-13) 2017

In this video from Jan 18, 2017, we learned stanza 5 of “From Heaven Came the Angels Bright” (Lutheran Worship, #52) and the fourth question of the Small Catechism on Holy Baptism, “What does such baptizing with water indicate?”  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ healing of the leper and of the centurion’s servant from Capernaum (Matthew 8:1-13), which is the Holy Gospel for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany.

In this video from August 15, 2018, we learned stanza 5 of “I Leave All Things to God’s Direction” (Lutheran Worship, #429), the sixth and seventh commandment and meaning from Luther’s Small Catechism.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ healing of the deaf and mute man (St. Mark 7:31-37), which is the Holy Gospel for the Twelfth Sunday after Trinity.

In this video from May 10, 2017, we learned stanza 5 of “He’s Risen, He’s Risen” (Lutheran Worship, #138), the Table of Duties for Citizens (Mt 22:21, Ro 13:5-7, 1 Tim 2:1-3, Titus 3:1, 1 Peter 2:13-14) from the Small Catechism, and St. John 16:14.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ promise to send the Holy Spirit to work through the preaching of the Word that Jesus might be proclaimed in the church.  St. John 16:5-15 is the Holy Gospel for Cantate (Easter 4) Sunday.
