Catechesis on Trinity Nine (St. Luke 16:1-13) 2021

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00 PM.

This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ teaching on the shrewd manager (St. Luke 16:1-13), which is the Holy Gospel for the Ninth Sunday after Trinity.

In this video from July 28, 2021, we learned hymn #478, stanza 3-4 of “Awake, My Soul, and with the Sun,” Small Catechism, Sixth Commandment and meaning, and St. Luke 16:9.

The service concludes with “Recite Word by Word.”

#54 Christians Do Not Seek Preachers to Do and Say What Pleases Them

All they deserve is to have such tyrants of whom they have to be afraid, as they had the pope. He was the sort of government they need. Our crazy princes have just started to learn this. What they have in mind is to be unrestrained and unafraid of the pope. They are beginning to protect the clergy, not for their sakes but to subordinate them to themselves and to make them live by their good pleasure. They are protecting these clergy in such a way that it would be better for them to join sides with us, whom they consider to be their enemies, than to let their feathers be picked by the princes in the name of protecting them. But this is how it should be and must be, and it serves them both right.

It must not be this way among Christians. Those who have honest and pious hearts should highly esteem their ministers and preachers in all humility and love, for the sake of Christ and of His Word. They should regard them highly as a gift and jewel given by God, more precious than any temporal treasure or possession. (Luther’s Works, v. 21, pages 227-228).

Adult Class by The Rev. Jacob Henson – July 30, 2023

Today The Rev. Jacob Henson will lead a Bible study on Pastoral Formation at the Seminary.

After graduating from St. Ignatius Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree, Jacob Henson received a call to be Deacon at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Tony, WI so that he might serve Apologia Ev. Lutheran Mission in Deer Park, WI.

Jacob will be installed on Friday, February 4 at 6 PM at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church on North Avenue at Linden Street, Tony, WI 54563.  Good Shepherd, Apologia, and Trinity are associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North America ELDoNA.

In this video from August 3, 2022, we learned Lutheran Worship #331 (TLH 287), stanza 7-8 of “Here is the Tenfold Sure Command,” Small Catechism, Seventh and Eighth Commandments and meanings, and St. Matthew 5:19.

After graduating from St. Ignatius Seminary with a Masters of Divinity degree, Benjamin Henson received a call to be pastor at Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in East Peoria, IL.  They are currently using the building at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 526 E. Washington St., East Peoria, IL 61611.  Benjamin will be installed on Saturday, July 29 at 10 AM at Holy Cross Ev. Lutheran Church.  Trinity and Holy Cross are associated with the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of North America ELDoNA.
