Catechesis on Sexagesima – 2017 (St. Luke 8:4-15)

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00.

In this video from Feb 15, 2017, we learned stanza 4 of “All Mankind Fell in Adam’s Fall” (Lutheran Worship, #363) and the third question under Office of the Keys from the Small Catechism, “What do you believe according to these words?”  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains the parable of the sower sowing the seed and the four types of soil (Luke 8:4-15), which is the Holy Gospel for Sexagesima Sunday.

Catechesis on All Saints’ Day (St. Matthew 5:1-12)

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church (Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00.

In this video from October 28, 2020, we learned stanza 1 of “I Am Trusting You, Lord Jesus” (Lutheran Worship, #408, The Lutheran Hymnal #428), the second petition of the Lord’s Prayer and its meaning, and Matthew 5:3.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ teaching on the beatitudes (St. Matthew 5:1-12), which is the Holy Gospel for All Saints’ Day.

Catechesis on Epiphany Five (St. Matthew 13:24-43)

In this video from January 30, 2019, we learned stanza 5 of “To the Name of Our Salvation” (The Lutheran Hymnal #116), questions one and two of Confession and the meaning from Luther’s Small Catechism.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains the Wheat and the Tares (St. Matthew 13:24-43), which is the Holy Gospel for the Fifth Sunday after the Epiphany.
