Catechesis on Laetare/Lent 4 (St. John 6:1-15) 2017

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00.

In this video from March 22, 2017, we learned stanza 3 of “A Lamb Goes Uncomplaining Forth” (The Lutheran Hymnal, #142), the fifth question under The Sacrament of the Altar from the Small Catechism, and St. John 6:33.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains the feeding of the five thousand (John 6:1-15), which is the Holy Gospel for Laetare (Lent 4) Sunday.

Catechesis on Oculi/Lent Three (St. Luke 11:14-28) 2021

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00 PM.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.

The dialog sermon explains the casting out of the demon from the mute man and the various responses (Luke 11:14-28), which is the Holy Gospel for Oculi (Lent 3) Sunday.   The teaching for Learn-by-Heart will include hymn #508, stanza 3 of “Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” Small Catechism, Sacrament of the Altar, 5, and Hebrews 10:26.

Learn-by-Heart on Invocabit/Lent One (Matthew 4:1-11) 2021

This Wednesday night, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM.  The teaching for Learn-by-Heart will include hymn #508, stanza 1 of “Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” Small Catechism, Sacrament of the Altar, 3, and Philippians 3:9 or 1 Corinthians 2:14.  Although we normally follow the Learn-by-Heart with a Catechesis service designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service (The Temptation of Christ in the Wilderness from St. Matthew 4:1-11), this Wednesday we did not.  Instead there was a Divine Service for Ash Wednesday (Link here Ash Wednesday Divine Service  ).
