Catechesis on Second-Last Sunday in the Church Year November 9, 2022

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00 PM.

This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service. The dialog sermon explains “The Sheep and the Goats” (St. Matthew 25:31-46), which is the Holy Gospel for Second-Last Sunday in the Church Year (Trinity 26).

Learn-by-Heart will include Lutheran Worship #477, stanza 3, “Lord, Help Us Ever to Retain,” (The Lutheran Hymnal #288), Small Catechism, Lord’s Prayer, Third Petition and meaning, and 2 Corinthians 5:10.

Picture:  In 2016 TASCHEN produced a hard copy two volume reprint of the 1534 Luther Bible for a little more than $100.  “Based on a precious copy of the original and printed in color, it reveals the multilayered splendor of this publication, showcasing the meticulous script, elaborate initials, and exquisite color woodcuts from the workshop of Lucas Cranach.  In an accompanying booklet, Stephan Füssel, director of the Institute for Book Sciences at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, adds his expertise to the publication with detailed descriptions of the illustrations, as well as an introduction exploring Luther’s life and the seismic significance of his bible.”

Catechesis on Trinity Twenty (Matthew 22:1-14) 2020

In this video from October 21, 2020, we learned stanza 6 “Sun of My Soul, O Savior Dear” (Lutheran Worship, #488, The Lutheran Hymnal #551), , the first petition of the Lord’s Prayer and meaning from Luther’s Small Catechism and 2 Thessalonians 2:13b-14.  This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ teaching on the marriage feast (St. Matthew 22:1-14), which is the Holy Gospel for the Twentieth Sunday after Trinity.
