Catechesis for Epiphany One – January 3, 2024

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00 PM.

This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service. The dialog sermon explains “Jesus in the Temple” (St. Luke 2:41-52), which is the Holy Gospel for First Sunday After Epiphany.

Learn-by-Heart will include “Praise God the Lord, Ye Sons of Men” (The Augustana Service Book and Hymnal #10, LSB 389, LW 44, TLH 105), Small Catechism, Holy Baptism, question #4, and Isaiah 28:21.

Catechesis on Circumcision of our Lord – December 27, 2023

On Wednesday nights, Trinity Lutheran Church(Herrin, IL) offers to both children and adults an opportunity for teaching with Learn-by-Heart at 6:30 PM and a catechetical service at 7:00 PM.

This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service.  The dialog sermon explains that Jesus completely kept the law for us in this the first shedding of His precious blood to save us (St. Luke 2:21), which is the Holy Gospel for The Circumcision of our Lord.

Learn-by-Heart will include “To The Name of Our Salvation” (The Augustana Service Book and Hymnal #7, TLH 116), the third question of Holy Baptism with its meaning from Luther’s Small Catechism, and Galatians 3:26.

Catechesis Advent Three – December 13, 2023

This service is designed to prepare God’s people for the theme of the upcoming Sunday Divine Service. The dialog sermon explains Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem on a donkey (St. Matthew 21:1-9), which is the Holy Gospel for the First Sunday in Advent.

In this video from November 23, 2022, we learned the Hymn “Savior of the Heathen, Come” (The Augustana Service Book and Hymnal #1, LW #13, TLH 95), Small Catechism, Lord’s Prayer, Fifth Petition and meaning, and Romans 13:11.
